Highlights of the second series

Episode 2.13
29 March 1984

This programme took place in the TH studio and was presented by Kenneth Kendall and Anneka Rice. Adjudicator Netty Lynton wasn’t present.

Part 1 shows clips of the Guernsey episode (with contestants Marion and Neville), and Annie’s boating exploits in Yorkshire, Merseyside and Cambridge.

Part 2 introduces three pairs of contestants from the series: Richard Pailthorpe and Walter Greenway (France), Harriet and Martin Llewellyn (Birmingham), and Hazel Harrison and Sally Dyson (Gwynedd). They sit in armchairs (where the TH map table normally stands) while Kenneth and Anneka show more clips showing off Kenneth’s knowledge, and Terry Hickman and John Willis’s solving of the first clue of the Cornwall episode (hidden in the 1907 register, Green Bank Hotel, Falmouth).

Part 3 begins with clips of clues in unusual places: Birmingham episode (Packwood House, Jack in pack of cards in spiral hedge beside yew tree), Cambridge episode (Grantchester Churchyard, in a pot of honey hanging from a cherry tree), Majorca (Son Marriog, in clay pot used as slingshot target), and Yorkshire (Knaresborough, on toy Pooh Bear handing in Petrifying Well near River Nidd) 1.

We then witness Annie’s frustration with ignorant locals while looking for Dickens’s Swiss Chalet in Rochester High Street in Kent; sea-skimming in the helicopter in Malta; the tea room at Porthmadog Harbour station on the Ffestiniog railway in Gywnedd; and Annie’s encounters with locked doors in Port Sunlight, Yorkshire and Kent, and with the gate in North Wales.

The programme ends with the close finishes in Guernsey, Majorca, Yorkshire, Cornwall and Kent 2.

Notes
1 Annie said that very soon after the Yorkshire episode was filmed, contestant Barbara Green gave birth. Annie showed a snapshot of mother and baby.
