Start Position Lullingstone Castle
Clue 1 Fly-drive to the pits, and between 4 and 6, stop Tim, 22, clutching Lola, 30, and let’s hope they’ve got the message.
Leads to Brands Hatch – Annie drives to pit 5 and calls in Lola (car 30) driven by Tim (age 22) and retrieves the clue from the passenger space
Clue 2 Between a Sole and Thong look for another sign of leather, where Mr Pickwick took refreshment, and the clue is in the bag.
Leads to The Leather Bottle Inn, Cobham – in Charles Dickens’s leather bag which hangs on the wall
Clue 3 In Edwin Drood’s Cloisterham there’s a message in a piece of Switzerland near Uncle Pumblechook’s shop.
Leads to Rochester – in a letter rack in Charles Dickens’ Swiss Chalet
Clue 4 South to the riparian ford of a band of brothers, then follow the scent of the rosaceae where the lady is over the moon.
Leads to Aylesford Friary – in a vase of roses beside a statue of the Virgin Mary
Clue 5 Len will lead you to a Northern-sounding castle. Potted near Ann Boleyn’s chamber, something worn by Mr Pratt’s best friend encloses the treasure. 1
Leads to Leeds Castle – collar on toy dog in Queen’s Room
Result The contestants won with 5 seconds to spare

1 The dog collar had been moved from its home in the dog collar museum to a plant pot (!) near Anne Boleyn’s chamber in the courtyard.
