The contestants originally send Annie south west towards the
Needles but then notice that a “Danger Area” is marked on the map near Newtown
Bay on the Isle of Wight. In the Solent off the shore are two Royal Navy frigates
travelling side by side. One of them is HMS Boxer; the Queensbury Rules govern
the sport of boxing. |

Agamemnon was one of the ships that was launched from Buckler’s
Hard. ‘Latter-day Noah’ refers to a shipbuilder. |

Perkin Warbeck, a royal imposter, sought sanctuary at Beaulieu.
‘Cerulean’ means blue and ‘ornithomorph’ means bird-like – hence Bluebird, the
car that broke the land-speed record. |

An ‘agister’ is a person who takes in and feeds livestock for
payment. The Verderers’ Court is held in Lymington; south of there is Brockenhurst.
It takes the contestants a long time to discover that Brockenhurst Show is held at
New Park to the north west of the town. Just south of there is Black Knowl (‘in the
dark and short on knowledge’) where they see a fence around a small enclosure that
contains a few horses. |

The contestants realise that they need to send Annie south to
Lymington, which make its money from salt extracted from the sea. However they send
her to Keyhaven beyond Lymington, because the ‘key’ in the clue. They then wonder if
‘brass’ refers to a brass band. It turns out that the clue is on Quay Hill (‘homophonic
key’) in Lymington, inside a brass diving helmet. |
