of Keith Thompson). |

Suzi flies to the Mount Pleasant district (Mount Pleasant
is the mail sorting office in Islington, London) near the start point and lands
at Ferrymead Historic Park (Charon was a ferryman in Greek Mythology; mead is
a drink made from honey). She boards a trolley-bus (take the Omnibus), rides
to the Arcadia Cinema (in mythology, Lycaon was king of Arcadia) and finds the
clue in the projector (magic lantern). |

In the Cashmere district (cashmere is made from goat’s wool),
Suzi looks for the Sign of Takahe (takahe = notornis mantelli, a flightless
new Zealand bird thought to have been extinct but later rediscovered), one of
a number of rest houses for travellers along the Summit Road built by local
philanthropist Harry Ell (a vision of Ell). Inside, on the first floor, she
finds a suit of armour (chessboard squares g1 and b8 are occupied by two knights
at the start of a game). The clue is inside the gorget (the piece of armour
protecting the throat). |

The contestants tell Suzi to fly along Route 73 to the Air
Force World museum (NAAFI = Navy, Army & Air Force Institute) at Hornby (Twiggy’s
real name is Lesley Hornby). One of the aircraft on display in the main hangar
is the DC3 Dakota (North or South state: North Dakota and South Dakota are US
states) used by Queen Elizabeth II (a state visitor) during her first tour of
New Zealand soon after her coronation in 1953. Suzi boards the aircraft and
finds the clue in a cocktail shaker (Tom Collins is a type of cocktail). |

Poet John Milton attended Christ’s College Cambridge (Milton’s
alma mater, Cantab’s first-listed hall), so Sarah and Colin tell Suzi to fly
to Christ’s College school, and to look for a game of rugby (Tom Brown was the
principal character in “Tom Brown’s Schooldays”, set in Rugby School, and William
Webb Ellis famously picked up the ball during a soccer match at Rugby School,
supposedly creating the game of rugby). Suzi spots the rugby game from the air,
lands at the school, runs to the rugby pitch and takes up position in a line-out.
The ball – with the clue written on it – is thrown and the players lift her
up so that she can catch it (something of a catch). |

Suzi runs to the nearby River Avon (Avon’s calling) where
a punt is waiting near the Curator’s House (curator = museum keeper). With time
running out, she is punted along the river to the Antigua Boat Yard (take a
punt to a Caribbean State). She runs inside and finds the treasure under one
of the cushions in the punt “Mary” (Mary’s squabs). |
